Joint project Next Generation internal gear pump „NeGInza“

Optimization of the flow control of an internal gear pump

The aim of the research project is to develop a new type of modular electrohydraulic pump system that allows energy recovery in four-quadrant operation and resource-saving use. The objective is to improve the pressure and rotational speed range with the smallest possible installation space and the lowest possible noise emission.

The sub-project of the Chair of Microfluidics is focused on maximizing the efficiency by optimizing the flow guidance. Four-quadrant operation makes flow guidance in the system a major challenge, especially at high rotational speeds and pressures. To increase the efficiency, the flow guidance has to be optimized in relation to the operating mode. Within the scope of the project, various geometric designs will be analyzed iteratively using flow simulation and evaluated with regard to optimized flow guidance. In Particular, critical points for cavitation and pressure loss are to be detected and minimized by suitable geometry changes.
