Welcome to our website
Head of the department: Prof. Dr.-Ing. Hermann Seitz
How do liquids and gases behave in the smallest of spaces? The research and application
of fluid and microfluidic components is our specialty. With
a creative and committed team consisting of the head of the department, scientific and technical
and staff, we work in one of the most interesting multidisciplinary fields,
which encompasses parts of physics, chemistry, biology, medicine and, of course, engineering.
The Chair of Microfluidics (LFM) is involved in basic and application-oriented research in the following key areas:
- Additive manufacturing processes - applications and material development in 3D printing,
- Surface functionalization using ultrashort pulse (USP) laser technology,
- Spark Plasma Sintering process for the development of functional materials and
- Development of fluid technology and microfluidic systems with applications particularly in mechanical engineering, automotive engineering, biomedical engineering and process engineering.
The Chair's courses are aimed at students on the Bachelor's degree course in Mechanical Engineering and the Master's degree courses in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechatronics and Ship and Marine Technology.
