Dipl.-Ing. Robert Thomas

Scientific Assistant

Robert Thomas studied mechanical engineering at the University of Rostock from 2015 to 2021, majoring in production engineering and materials engineering. He successfully completed his studies in March 2021 with a master's thesis on "Development of criteria for the processability of photopolymers in stereolithographic processes by photometric investigations".
Prior to his studies, Mr. Thomas completed an apprenticeship as a construction mechanic at the company Nordic Yards Warnemünde GmbH and was able to gain initial practical experience in his subsequent work as a construction mechanic.

During his studies, Robert Thomas worked as a research assistant at the Fraunhofer Institute for Large Structures in Production Engineering IGP in the "Automation Technology" development group. There he was responsible for the conceptual development and commissioning of various test stands and programmed applications for test automation. After his work at Fraunhofer IGP, Mr. Thomas worked as a research assistant at the Chair of Microfluidics at the University of Rostock. There he supported the monitoring and optimization of the manufacturing process of drug delivery systems within the DFG project "3D-printed drug delivery systems with time-controllable drug release". Additionally, Mr. Thomas realized the planning, setup and commissioning of an "open Additive Manufacturing Lab" at the Chair of Microfluidics.

Since May 2021, Robert Thomas is employed as a research associate at the chair within the BMWi-funded project LaserPulsForm. The aim of the project is to develop a novel process for nano- and microstructuring of injection molding tools using ultrashort pulse lasers.
